International network

Internationality at the heart of the curriculum

Having focused on an international environment early on, the Écoles de Condé now benefit from a unique position in the league of Art schools.

The preparation of a European Bachelor’s or European Master’s degree is integrated in all of our courses and creates links with many European schools, depending on their area and level of specialisation. In addition, partnerships with American and Canadian universities enable students to take part in exchanges outside of Europe.

In this context, languages play an important role: English is compulsory on all the courses, as is passing the TOEIC examination. It is even possible for students on the Applied Arts Certified Technician course to learn a second language (optional).

Finally, keeping in touch with the alumni network and internship supervisors allows a significant proportion of students (15%) to obtain work experience abroad.

Since July, I have been doing an internship at the March Studio, an architecture & graphic design studio in Melbourne where Anne-Laure Cavignaux, a CT in Visual Communication graduate from the École de Condé in Paris, is the artistic director! The last project I worked on was the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in Brisbane. March Studio created the scenography and visual identity of the main exhibition: Design Thinking / Make Change. Furthermore, Pen Plan at the parlour is one of the projects that were presented at this Triennial. We all went there for a week to install everything! Creation on one side, managing on the other side and all of it in English!”

I just wanted to give you a post-Master’s degree update. So I managed to land a job as a designer for H&M in Stockholm. Yes, I love the cold! More specifically, I will be working in the children’s department for boys. It’s not exactly the position I had hoped for, as I originally wanted to go into textile design, but I will be able to evolve more easily in-house. I am still really excited to have been offered this job and I will start on the 15th of December 2010!”

/ Mathieu Debruyère, Bachelor in Visual Communication, Condé Lyon, 2009 Graduate

“After completing a Foundation year in Applied Arts and a CT course in Visual Communication with multimedia option at the École de Condé Lyon, I decided to apply to an offer posted by the school in July for an internship at NKB Archi, a French-Vietnamese agency in architecture, graphic design and landscaping based in Hanoï that was looking for a young multimedia graduate to develop various projects, both in visual identity and web design. After a few email exchanges and an interview, I arrived in Vietnam late August to discover a very different, but very exciting professional environment! I quickly realised that I was going to have to be extremely independent, being the only graphic designer for several missions, including the redesign of the graphics chart and logo, the creation of websites for the different branches of the company, in other words, 15hour days but in a fascinating, international environment. I also realised how fluency in English is not an option but a necessity. I don’t only have one project on the go, but a dozen, so a great flexibility is necessary. One of my most recent projects: creating a logo for a chain of luxury hotels in Vietnam called Royal Lotus. Well beyond the simple multimedia, I am also asked to make complex graphic proposals. I therefore advise prospective students to be curious, flexible and responsive.”
